A murder case has been filed against 119 people, including two former lawmakers, in connection with the death of 16-year-old As-Sabur during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Dhaka’s Savar.

Sahid Hasan Mithu, a cousin of the deceased, filed the case with Ashulia Police Station around 11:30 pm on Friday.

Former Dhaka-19 constituency MP and Ashulia thana Awami League general secretary Muhammad Saiful Islam and former MP Talukdar Towhid Jung Murad have been made accused in the case, among others.

As-Sabur, a class X student of Shaheen School and College in Savar’s Ashulia, was the son of Nayed alias Jakir, a resident of Mohadebpur in Naogaon. He lived with his family in the Shimultola area of Ashulia.

According to the case statement, As-Sabur went to the Baipail area around 11:00 am on 5 August to buy essential commodities during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Around 2:00 pm that day, the complainant of the case came to know that his brother's body was lying at the Baipail intersection. Mithu, along with others, rushed to the scene and found As-Sabur's mutilated body.

The case statement also alleged that Awami League leaders and activists beat and shot As-Sabur to death.
