AB party given registration
Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party has been registered as a political party by the Election Commission (EC). With this, the number of registered parties in the country stood at 45. EC Secretary Shafiul Azim confirmed this information on Wednesday.
In view of the writ petition judgment of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, a gazette was issued registering the party.
The notification state that AB Party has been registered as a political party by the Election Commission of Bangladesh until further notice. The symbol 'Eagle' has been reserved for the said party and its registration number is 050.
According to the People's Representation Order 1972, in order to obtain registration, any party has to establish an active central office with a central committee, at least one-third of the district offices and at least 100 upazila offices, each of which has at least 200 voting members.
Before the 12th National Assembly elections, the commission issued a public notice to register new parties in 2023. At that time, AB Party applied for registration. Although the party survived in the preliminary selection but was dropped from final list due to lack of accuracy in the information.
