Alumni Leaders Call for Unity and Equal Recognition
The Islamic University Alumni Association convened a special meeting on Friday at the Supreme Court Auditorium in the city, aiming to foster brotherhood among former students and safeguard their interests both domestically and internationally.
The meeting was chaired by Mirza Walid Hossain, President of the Islamic University Alumni Association, and moderated by the association’s Secretary General, SM Mizanur Rahman.
In his address, Mirza Walid Hossain urged all former students of Islamic University to actively support fellow alumni in overcoming social, financial, or psychological challenges, regardless of political affiliations. He stressed the importance of unity and mutual support within the alumni network.
Hossain also expressed dissatisfaction with the current focus and activities of the Awami League-backed Islamic University Alumni Association, criticizing this faction for prioritizing material gains over the broader welfare of all students, which he argued undermines the core mission of the alumni association.
He called for a shift in mindset among members to promote the association as a universal platform for all former students. Speaking at the special meeting, Hossain emphasized the need for inclusivity and equal recognition within the association.
He urged members to work collectively towards elevating the association beyond individual achievements and political affiliations. "Every member should receive the same recognition, whether they are a minister, a private official, or a donor," he stated, stressing that the value of each member should be acknowledged equally, regardless of their status or contributions.
The call for a unified approach is intended to foster a more cohesive and supportive alumni network, where every member feels valued and engaged. Hossain's remarks reflect a broader vision of inclusivity and mutual respect within the association, striving to ensure that it serves as a universal platform for all former students of Islamic University.
The meeting emphasized a commitment to building a supportive community among alumni, encouraging a collaborative approach to addressing various challenges faced by members.
Ayub Jibon, Organizing Secretary of the Islamic University Alumni Association and a prominent lawyer, announced that the association will host a significant event titled "Family Day of Islamic University Alumni Association" on November 22, 2024.
Jibon expressed his satisfaction and excitement for the upcoming gathering, highlighting its significance as a long-awaited opportunity for alumni to come together. The event aims to strengthen bonds among former students and celebrate the collective achievements and shared experiences of the association’s members.
“This celebration has been eagerly anticipated, and it will serve as a valuable occasion for alumni to reconnect and foster a sense of unity,” said Jibon. He emphasized the importance of the event in enhancing the association’s community spirit and ensuring that all members feel valued and included.
The “Family Day” is expected to feature various activities and networking opportunities, reinforcing the association’s commitment to nurturing a strong and supportive alumni network.
Shah Jamal Mostafa, a first-batch student of Islamic University and Chairman of Amial Group, called for a positive approach from members of the Islamic University Alumni Association to maximize the benefits of the organization and contribute to national development.
Mostafa emphasized the importance of a constructive and cooperative attitude among alumni to achieve the association’s goals. He stressed that unified and proactive engagement from members is crucial for the association to realize its full potential and make a significant impact on national progress.
“The positive involvement of our members is key to unlocking the greater benefits that the Alumni Association can offer,” said Mostafa. “By working together with a shared vision, we can not only enhance the value of our association but also contribute meaningfully to the progress of our country.”
Sayem Khan, a former student of Islamic University and Managing Director of Goalundo Hatcheries Ltd, highlighted the pivotal role of the Islamic University Alumni Association in supporting former students. Khan emphasized the need for a positive mindset to elevate the association as a unified platform for all alumni, which he believes is crucial for both personal and national advancement.
“The role of the Alumni Association is vital in facilitating connections among former students and harnessing their collective potential,” Khan noted.
Khan stressed that fostering a positive and collaborative mindset among members is a necessary step. By doing so, the association can better serve its members and contribute to broader economic and social progress. Khan’s remarks reflect a growing consensus on the importance of a unified alumni network in driving both individual and national growth.
Approximately 500 former students of the Islamic University participated in the special meeting, expressing their satisfaction with the opportunity to freely share their views.
Former students of Islamic University—including Mohammad Ali, Prof. Dr. Rais Uddin, Jakaria Haider, Monowar Azad, Ashrar Habib Nipu, Jafar Ahmed, Masud, Limon Ahmed, Habibul Alam, Lenin Rahman, Pilu, Nazrul Islam, Milima Islam Biswas Mili, Sohrab Ahmed, Harun Ar Rasid, and others—also took part in the event.
