Another warship joins Bangladesh Navy's fleet
Another locally made warship 'Banouja Bishkhali' has been added to the fleet of the Bangladesh Navy at Khulna Shipyard. This information was informed in the press release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Saturday. According to ISPR, Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan handed over the commissioning order to the ship's captain and officially unveiled the nameplate at the commissioning ceremony organized at Khulna Naval Berth on Saturday.
Named after the Bishkhali river, the ship 'Banouja Bishkhali' has successfully participated in all operational activities since its commissioning in the Navy in 1978. The ship was de-commissioned from the Bangladesh Navy in 2014 after 36 years of protecting the country's waters.
Later, keel laying was done at Khulna Shipyard on December 2, 2019, to rebuild the ship. Banouja Bishkhali, the fifth ship of the 41st Patrol Craft Squadron, was handed over to the Navy on November 22, 2023, after completion of construction. The newly inducted ship in the Bangladesh Navy has a length of 51.6 meters and a width of 7.5 meters. The ship is capable of travelling at a maximum speed of 21 nautical miles per hour. The ship is equipped with various types of combat equipment including sophisticated surveillance radar, GPS, echo-sounder system. Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hasan expressed strong hope to develop the Bangladesh Navy as a modern, strong and capable force.
He said that a strong navy is essential for safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of our beloved motherland, economic development and above all geopolitical needs. Bangladesh Navy today has become an efficient three-dimensional force due to the continuous increase in fleet capacity. To achieve the economic prosperity of the country, the Navy is always dedicated to dealing with any disaster in the country including providing security of the ports, fair management of sea trade, and implementation of blue-economy.
Earlier, the Naval Chief was welcomed at the venue by the Khulna Naval Region Commander. At this time, a team of the Navy gave him a guard of honour. PSO of Naval Headquarters, brave freedom fighters, various senior military and civilian officials and dignitaries were present on the occasion.
