Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the country’s Met Office, today forecasted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over four divisions and at one or two places over four divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country in the next 24 hours ending tomorrow at 9 am.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram & Sylhet divisions,” said the Met Office.

BMD forecasted this in a weather bulletin, signed by Meteorologist Md. Bazlur Rashid, issued on Tuesday (July 16).

The country’s Met Office stated that a mild heat wave is sweeping over Rangpur and Sylhet divisions and the district of Feni and it may continue.

Besides, day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country during the period, it added.

Meteorologist Md. Bazlur Rashid said in the Synoptic Situation of the weather bulletin that the low-pressure area over Northwest Bay and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal off the South Odisha coast now lies over South Odisha & adjoining area. The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, the center of the low, and Gangetic West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh. “For this, monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate elsewhere over North Bay,” he added.

“Rainfall activity may increase at the end period,” the Met Office forecasted in the weather outlook for the next five days.

The country’s maximum temperature was recorded at 36.5°C yesterday, Monday (July 15), at Rangpur, Sayedpur, and Dimla in the Rangpur division and at Srimangal in the Sylhet division while today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 25.4°C at Bandarban in the Chattogram division.

The country’s maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours was recorded at 53mm at Srimangal in Sylhet division.

Today’s sunset will be at 6:48 pm and tomorrow’s sunrise will be at 5:21 am.
