A college student named Manzur Quader, 18, committed suicide by fastening a veil around his neck and hanging himself in Rautbari Village of Gobindasi Union in Bhuapur Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.
He was the son of Dulal Mandal of the village and an HSC candidate of science group from Bhuapur Ibrahim Khan Government College.
According to family sources, Manzur had a love relationship with a classmate a year ago. He was pressured for marriage as the girl’s marriage was settled in another place. Unable to tell his parents about this relationship, he disclosed it to his sister Sumi.
Later, his sister asked the girl over the phone to be patient until her brother got a job. But that girl repeatedly pressured him to marry her. Unable to bear these pressures and unable to marry the girl, he committed suicide on Thursday morning.
In this connection, Bhuapur Police Station OC Ahsan Ullah said that the body was recovered and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. “Maybe the student committed suicide out of conceit with his parents. After the legal process, the body will be handed over to the relatives. An unnatural death case is under process in this incident,” the OC also said.
