Dhaka Calls on Singapore to Take an Active Role in ASEAN for Rohingya Crisis

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today urged Singapore to play an impactful role in the ASEAN for a sustainable and permanent solution to the Rohingya issue. He made the call when Mitchel Lee, the newly appointed Chargé d' Affaires (CDA) of Singapore in Dhaka presented his Letter of Commission (LOC) to him at the foreign ministry here, said a press release.

During the meeting, the Foreign Adviser pointed that the only permanent solution to the Rohingya crisis is their repatriation to Myanmar. Both the sides discussed the issues of mutual interest, including trade and investment, cooperation in ICT sector, education, tourism, energy, sending skill and semi-skill manpower, clean energy, energy supply chain and training programmes for the public servants.

The Foreign Adviser laid emphasised on experience and knowledge sharing between the two countries in the field of IT start-ups and electronics for mutual benefits. While discussing Bangladesh’s initiative to ease of doing business for the foreign investors, Foreign Adviser stressed on the necessity of knowledge and experience sharing with Singapore. Welcoming Lee to Bangladesh on his new assignment, Hossain assured him of all possible cooperation during his tenure in Bangladesh.
