Dictatorship gone, but ghosts still haunt: Tariq Rahman

“Dictatorship has gone, but its ghosts are still haunting. They are spreading various confusions. They are involved in various unethical activities defaming the name of people's favorite party. Shahid Zia's soldiers will stop them,” said BNP Acting Chairman Tariq Rahman in a virtual speech as the chief guest at a rally organized by Gopalpur Upazila and Municipality BNP of the district on Suti VM Pilot Model Government High School ground on Wednesday afternoon demanding withdrawal of false cases and unconditional release of all state prisoners including BNP’s Central Executive Committee Vice-Chairman and former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu.

Gopalpur Upazila BNP President Khandakar Jahangir Alam Rubel chaired the meeting while BNP Central Executive Committee Vice-Chairman Advocate Ahmed Azam Khan, Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku, Co-Organizing Secretary Benazir Ahmed Titu, Member Advocate Obaidul Haque Nasir, Tangail District BNP President Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal, District Ulama Dal President Abul Kalam Azad, Gopalpur Upazila BNP General Secretary Kazi Liaquat were also present at the event.

It is to be noted that Abdus Salam Pintu was elected MP from Tangail-2 (Gopalpur-Bhuapur) Constituency in the fifth, sixth and eighth parliamentary elections. In 2001, he got the responsibility of Deputy Minister of the 4-party coalition government. Since 2008, he has been in jail.
