Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime) Harun-or-Rashid has been arrested. He is being interrogated at an undisclosed location.
A State Agency detained him from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Monday (August 7). It could not be confirmed whether it was a member of the police, RAB, or any other law enforcement agency.

The sources said that attempts are being made to know “under whose authority” Harun-or-Rashid behaved recklessly and picked up and detained six coordinators of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD), took forced statements from them, sent Detective Branch (DB) forces arbitrarily from house to house to suppress the movement of students, and did the job of picking up people, including politicians.

Additional IGP Harun did not allow former State Minister for Home Affairs Sohel Taj to meet the six coordinators. At that time, he told Sohel Taj, “It is impossible to meet without the instructions of higher authorities. When asked when they would be released, he said – they would be released when the higher authority ordered “

An attempt is being made to find out who that higher authority was from Harun.

On 6 July 2011, when Harun-or-Rashid was Additional SP, he physically assaulted the then Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abdin Farroque in front of the Sangsad bhaban (Parliament House).
