Flood water starts receding in Fatikchhari
The vast township of Fatikchhari, the largest upazila of Chattogram, was submerged in flood waters for three consecutive days. The water started receding from Friday. After the water recedes, damages appear in different areas. Roads and houses have been collapsed due to floods. Many small roads in the village seem to be non-existent. After the flood waters receded, many people were clueless after seeing the damaged condition of their houses.
After visiting different areas in Nazirhat municipality of Fatikchhari, it was found that the Nazirhat-Kazirhat road was under water for the past few days. On Saturday, the water receded and the road appeared, but boats are still plying in the villages on both sides of it. Big holes have been created in different parts of the road. Most of the mud roads of the village in Sobhanchari area of Suabil union have been broken. Vegetable fields, all crop fields, fish enclosures have been washed away.
Fatikchhari upazila executive officer Mozammel Haque Chowdhury said that the water is receding very quickly from different areas of the upazila. After water receded in Baganbazar, Narayanhat, Harualchhari, Suabil Union of the upazila, many mud houses collapsed. At this moment, everyone should come forward to extend their helping hand in the reconstruction along with reaching out relief aid to the flood-hit villages.
The situation remains critical, with severe shortages of clean water and food. Urgent humanitarian assistance is required to support the affected population.b
