Joint op against illegal firearms from Wednesday

The Ministry of Home Affairs will launch a joint operation to recover illegal firearms from next Wednesday [September 1, 2024]. Public Relations Officer of the ministry Faisal Ahmed made the disclosure in a circular on Sunday.

Following Sheikh Hasina's resignation and escape on August 5, miscreants attacked, vandalised, and set fire to various police stations across the country, and looted a large amount of firearms and ammunition stored in the police stations.

Several firearms and ammunition were recovered from different places of the country during law enforcement operations at different times. But the number of recovered illegal firearms is still very insignificant.

As a result, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a joint operation to recover the remaining illegal firearms.

Attacks, vandalism and arson of police stations, outposts and police units in various parts of the country and looting of arms and ammunition have also raised fears that the country's security is at serious risk.

Along with the joint operation to recover looted firearms and ammunition, regular patrols and surveillance will continue to maintain law and order in all corners of the country.
