Kazipara Metro Rail Station Operations Resume Tomorrow
The operation of closed Kazipara Metro rail station will resume tomorrow (Friday) following completion of necessary repair works at the stations. “Operation of Kazipara Metro rail station will resume tomorrow after completion of some repair works at the station at a cost of taka 20.50 lakh,” Managing Director of Dhaka Metro Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Abdur Rouf told the newsmen.
Addressing a press briefing, he said the Kazipara station was repaired quickly considering commuters demand. However, more equipment is required to fix some issues further at the station, he added. About Mirpur-10 station, he said a committee has been working on the issue to assess the damage of the station. Abdur Rouf informed the newsmen that following demand of the commuters, the authorities have decided to run the Metro rail on Fridays, the weekly holidays, from tomorrow.
According to fresh schedule, Metro rail service will begin at 3.30 pm and to continue till 9.40 pm from Uttara North to Motijheel on each Friday. “On Friday, the metro train of MRT Line-6 (Mass Rapid Transit) will operate from Uttara North to Motijheel from 3:30 PM to 9:00 PM and from Motijheel to Uttara North from 3:50 PM to 9:40 PM from September 20,” he added.
On September 18, the Metro rail service on Agargaon-Motijheel route remained suspended from 9:40 am to 8:25 pm due to technical glitch. Its operations however resumed at 8.25 am today after fixing the technical issues. Besides, a seven member committee comprising representatives of DMTCL, project and consulting firm was formed to investigate cause of the untoward incident and take necessary precautionary measures to prevent such incidents in future.
The committee also asked to submit the report with necessary recommendations within the next five working days. Miscreants vandalized Mirpur-10 and Kazipara Matro rail stations in the evening of July 19 during anti-discrimination student movement and since then operations at the two stations remained suspended.
