Char Fasson Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer's office celebrated the National Fisheries Week 2024 through various programmes including rally, discussion meeting and distribution of prizes in the upazila parishad square on Wednesday.
Upazila Chairman Zainal Abedin Akhan was present as the chief guest in the programmes chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Naureen Haque and moderated by Marine Fisheries Officer Saidur Rahman. Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Maruf Hossain Minar gave a welcome speech while Char Fasson Press Club President Principal Abul Hashem Mahajan and other guests spoke as the special guests. About 500 fish farmers and marginal fishermen of the upazila participated in the event.
The speakers said that Bangladesh is self-sufficient in fish production. Fishermen should be more focused on producing native species of fish in the ponds and reservoirs. Otherwise native fish will become extinct.
At the end of the programme, a private NGO organization was awarded at the institutional level for playing a special role in fisheries in the upazila. Later, the guests released the fry of different species of local fish in the upazila parishad pond.
