Police working relentlessly to control crime: IGP

Inspector of General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam today said his force is working insistently to reduce all sorts of felonies, including robbery and murder, across the country. “Police are working relentlessly to control the crimes like theft, robbery and murder across the country We want all-out cooperation of students. We all have to prevent it together,” he told a meeting.

The IGP was speaking at the 41st annual general meeting (AGM) of the ‘Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association’ at Rajarbagh here this noon. Referring to the fire incident in Bangladesh Secretariat, he said, “The investigation into the fire incident is underway The enquiry committee will provide details in this connection.”

The police chief said, “The law enforcement agencies are taking every incident of threat very seriously. But nothing found serious so far.” Taking part in the program, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh M Sajjat Ali said, “The people of Bangladesh did not want to see such role of police what they performed during July-August ‘Anti-Discrimination Students-People Movement”.

He said the reason behind the public resentment against the police personnel should be analyzed.  “If the police could have taken the right decision even 72 hours before on August 5, 2024,  there won’t have been so many causalities,” he added.
