"Polytechnic Students Block Roads, Demand 6-Point Reforms"
A group of students of Polytechnic Institute blocked the Satrasta Mor in the capital's Tejgaon today for 6 point demand, causing severe traffic jams on Moghbazar Mohakhali, Khamarbari, Farmgate, Karwanbazar roads.On Monday morning, the students started protesting under the banner of "Karigori Chhatra Andolon". They took a position on the road after 1 o'clock.
Tejgaon Shilpa Police Station OC Gazi Shamimur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said that due to the blockade, traffic has stopped on both sides of the roads. Attempts are being made to convince the blockaders to remove them from the road.
Six-point demand of students are --
1. Technical sector management cannot have any manpower other than those with technical education to administer the technical education sector.
2. Diploma Engineering course should be of 4 years duration and every semester should be of full duration (6 months).
3. The controversial recruitment in 2021 of all craft instructors should be removed from technical department and all institutes immediately.
4. Recruitment of technical manpower to all vacant posts in technical sector should be completed expeditiously.
5. All recruitment rules of the Department of Technical Education should be revised.
6. No one other than Diploma in Engineer can apply for the post of Assistant Engineer (Grade
10 Assistant Engineer and equivalent posts will be reserved for Diploma Engineers.
Besides, by reforming the Technical Education Board, there will be no manpower outside of technical education in the management of the technical sector. The teacher crisis should be removed by amending the controversial recruitment rules of the Department of Technical Education and appointing technical manpower to all vacant posts. In order to increase the opportunities for higher education, 100% seats should be secured in the proposed four engineering colleges for Diploma in Engineering students.
