President Md. Shahabuddin today declared the dissolution of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS – National Parliament). This was informed in a circular sent by the President’s Press Wing on Tuesday (August 6).

The circular said that the JS was dissolved following the decision of three army chiefs, leaders of various political parties, representatives of civil society and leaders of Students Against Discrimination (SAD) with President Md. Shahabuddin.

The circular also said that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been released. From July 1 to August 5, the SAD activists and the release of detainees in various cases have started and many have already been released.

Before this, Students Against Discrimination (SAD) gave an ultimatum to dissolve the JS by 3 pm.

In a video message, SAD coordinator Nahid Islam said that the Sangsad did not dissolve even after the mass uprising. If the JS is not dissolved by 3 pm on Tuesday, a strict program will be announced on Wednesday. “I call upon the revolutionary students to be ready,” he added.

Sheikh Hasina left the country in a military helicopter after submitting her resignation letter to the President at Bangabhaban on Monday afternoon. At that time, Sheikh Rehana accompanied her.

AFP reported that Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana have gone to a safe place. Sheikh Hasina wanted to record a speech before leaving. The army did not give her that chance.
