Rajshahi people paid rich tribute to Martyred Intellectuals
Various institutions, political, socio-cultural, and volunteer organizations side by side with educational institutions including Rajshahi University observed the Martyred Intellectuals Day here today paying rich tribute to the martyrs together conveying deep sympathy to members of the bereaved families.
In observance of the day, multifarious programmes including placing of floral wreaths on Shaheed Minar, photo exhibition, public gathering, discussion meeting and candle enlightening on the mass graves were observed throughout the day. Rajshahi City Corporation observed the day through various programmes, including placing of floral wreaths at the memorial plaque in front of the collectorate building, paying rich tribute to the martyred intellectuals.
The District Administration held a discussion meeting at its conference hall with Deputy Commissioner Afiya Akhter in the chair to mark the day. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Khandaker Aziz Ahmed addressed the discussion as chief guest. Meanwhile, Rajshahi University observed the day through an elaborate daylong programme, which included placing floral wreaths on Shaheed Minar, discussion meetings, milad mahfil and probhat ferry.
Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib addressed the ceremony as the chief guest, while Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Mayeen Uddin and Prof Farid Uddin Khan and other teachers, officers and students placed wreaths at the RU Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours.
Magnificent RU Shaheed Smrity Sangrahashala' remained open for the visitors marking the day. Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi observed the day through almost similar types of programmes separately.
