Ronaldo launches YouTube channel, breaks world record
Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on Wednesday launched his YouTube channel, garnering a record-breaking 1 million subscribers in just 90 minutes.
Titled UR, the YouTube channel currently features 12 videos, offering a glimpse into Ronaldo’s life beyond the world of sports. The channel had 12.9 million subscribers at the time this report was filed on Thursday.
The 39-year-old, who currently is the captain for both Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia and the Portuguese national team, will discuss his passion for football as well as his other interests such as wellness, nutrition, education and business on the YouTube channel.
Ronaldo had announced the launch of his YouTube channel on his Instagram, X and Facebook accounts, where he has 636 million, 112.5 million and 170 million followers, respectively.
“The wait is over. My YouTube channel is finally here! SIUUUbscribe and join me on this new journey. Link in bio,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a video.
The first video on the channel, titled ‘When I met the most famous Cristiano’, takes fans through the moment when the Portugal footballer came across his Madame Tussauds replica. The video has garnered over 7.1 million views and nearly nine lakh likes. Fans flocked to the comments section with their excitement to catch behind-the-scenes glimpses of Ronaldo’s life.
Fans have been anticipating Ronaldo’s YouTube channel to surpass that of MrBeast, who currently has 311 million subscribers on YouTube, the highest in the world.
Just hours after launching his channel, Ronaldo was awarded YouTube’s silver play button, becoming the first to achieve this milestone in such a short time. He shared a video on Instagram in which he shows the button to his family, eliciting a heartwarming response from his children. “A present for my family. Thank you to all the SIUUUbscribers,” he wrote in the caption.
Throughout a distinguished career spanning over two decades at clubs such as Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo has achieved 33 trophies, five UEFA Champions League victories, five Ballon d'Or honors and a record-setting three UEFA Men’s Player of the Year awards. With over 890 official senior career goals for both club and country, he holds the record as the all-time leading goal scorer.
