Six die as train hits auto-rickshaw in Cumilla

Six passengers of an auto-rickshaw were killed as the three-wheeler was hit by a Dhaka-bound train on a level crossing under Burichang upazila of the district this morning. The accident occurred at around 10 am at Kalikapur level crossing in the upazila. The deceased were Rafiq Mia, Lutfa Begum, Sanu Mia, Safarjan Begum, Hosne Ara and Shaju Mia, hailed from Bakshimul village under the upazila.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Railway Police, Cumilla Golam Mostofa said the accident occurred when the inter-city train "Subarna Express" hit the auto-rickshaw, full of passengers, in the area as it was passing the spot at the same time, leaving four passengers dead on the spot and injuring others.

Two passengers died on the way to a nearby hospital, he said. A four-member investigation team, led by Assistant Executive Engineer Nazmul Hasan, was formed to prove the accident, the SI added.
